Tiding You Over

Here are a couple of audio-related thoughts to “hold you” until my next article gets done.

Please Remember:

The opinions expressed are mine only. These opinions do not necessarily reflect anybody else’s opinions. I do not own, operate, manage, or represent any band, venue, or company that I talk about, unless explicitly noted.

I did actually write a regular article this week, but it’s a guest piece for Schwilly Family Musicians. That means that everybody (including me) will have to wait a little while before it goes “live.” I figured it would be nice to at least have something else to look at this week – so here are two “snippets” or ideas about the live-sound life.

For the live-audio tech, life is a giant, resonant acoustical circuit, with the total system gain as the load impedance. More gain means LESS load impedance, and a higher tendency for the acoustical circuit to “ring” (feedback).

Consider the implications of this carefully.

If you have no choice but to constantly ride the faders during a mix, there is a good chance that:

Your mix might be deficient.
Or the song arrangements might be deficient.
Or the band might be deficient.

Or a combination of the above.
